The Wall That Heals Comes to Blue Springs

The Wall That Heals is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located in Washington, DC.  The wall tours the nation as a way to help communities, families, and friends honor those who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.  In addition to the replica, a traveling museum and information center is also part of the exhibit.  Here, visitors learn about the Vietnam War and those who fought in it.  The Wall That Heals has traveled to more than 300 cities since its creation, and on September 30, it’s coming to Blue Springs

The Wall will be set up in Pink Hill Park, and it will be in Blue Springs from Sept. 30 until Oct. 3.  The events actually kick off on September 28 at 12:30 when The Wall is escorted from Concordia, Missouri, to Blue Springs by the Patriot Guard.  There are a number of different events each day, including a Reflection Ceremony and an Awakening Ceremony.  Admission is, of course, completely free.  Families and friends of Vietnam veterans are encouraged to bring a photo of the veteran so that visitors can put a face with a name.

Every Vietnam veteran who visits the wall will receive a commemorative medal or lapel pin.  In addition to this, the first 1,000 veterans who visit the Blue Springs Village Gardens store will receive a free red carnation to leave at the wall.  Families may also want to consider leaving a memorial wreath by the wall in honor of their loved one.
